The brine permeability of sonic bath cleaned Berea Sandstone increased 14% (from 240 to 275 mD) following reaction with supercritical CO2 immersed in 1% NaCl for 360 hours at 50 ºC and 10 MPa.
Berea Sandstone - an overview | ScienceDirect Topics
Permeability of the Berea Sandstone was measured as a function of both confining pressure and pore pressure. As expected, permeability decreased with increased confining pressure and increased with increasing pore pressure. However, pore pressure had a significantly larger effect on permeability than did confining pressure.

2016-12-5 · We measured CO 2 ‐brine relative permeability by performing five steady‐state primary drainage experiments in a 116 mD Berea sandstone core at 20°C and 10.34 MPa. We used a long (60.8 cm) core and four pressure taps to study and minimize end effects that can plague CO 2 ‐brine relative permeability measurements, and we obtained in situ saturation profiles using a medical X‐ray ...
In the Berea sandstone, we found that the permeability reduced with increasing mean stress and the magnitude of permeability anisotropy correlated with the intermediate principal stress.
2021-3-16 · Three-phase flows through a pore network of Berea sandstone are studied numerically under critical interfacial tension condition. Results show that the relative permeability of each fluid increases as its own saturation increases. The specific interfacial length between wetting and non-wetting fluids monotonously decreases with increasing the saturation of intermediate-wetting fluid, while the ...
2003-7-7 · Ten Berea sandstone core plugs were used in the relative permeability experiments and in the primary drainage capillary pressure measurements. The reduced porosity is around 21-22% and the permeability is approximately 450 md. The rate of revolution versus time was developed separately for each range of centrifuge speeds.
Abstract. X-ray diffraction, base exchange studies and core flood tests were made to explain the reduction in permeability of Berea sandstone which results from changing the salinity of flood water. It was shown that the reduction of permeability is related to the exchangeable cations on the clays and to particle morphology.

Permeability data were acquired from a 0.3 by 0.3 by 0.3 m block of Berea Sandstone obtained from Cleveland Quarries in Amherst, Ohio. The Berea Sandstone is believed to be of Mississippian Age with its origins in a low-energy, fluvial-deltaic environment (Pepper et al., 1954).
Their statistics and scaling behavior are shown to depend on direction. We analyze directional dependence and scaling of air log permeability statistics characterizing minipermeameter measurements by Tidwell and Wilson on the faces of a 30 by 30 by 30 cm 3 size unsaturated block of Berea sandstone. We find distinct differences between the ...
1990-8-1 · Later, Saraf et al. measured three-phase relative permeabilities for fired Bereasandstone and compared the data with predictions from Stone''s methods. Theyreported that Method 1 was better than Method 2 in low oil-saturation ranges.while Method 2 was better in high oil-saturation ranges.
1990-8-1 · OSTI.GOV Journal Article: Three-phase relative permeability of Berea sandstone
1991-10-6 · For this reason, an outcrop (Berea) sandstone core was treated with a wetting agent to alter its original wettability and subjected to relative permeability tests. The experimental data include two-phase relative permeabilities of wateroil, oil-gas and water-gas and three-phase relative permeabilities for simultaneous water-oil-gas flow.
The relatively high porosity and permeability of Berea Sandstone™ makes it a good reservoir rock. There are 3 variations of the sandstone used for our core samples: Split Rock has visible laminations but can be classified as homogeneous. These samples typically yield mD ratings between 100-300.

A Berea sandstone core of 5.308 cm length and 3.874 cm diameter was used. The porosity was 19.01% and the nitrogen permeability was about 200 mD. This core plug was repeatedly used for tests at different temperatures and for gas and nitrogen. After each test, the core was cleaned by a …
Permeability - Berea Sandstone™ Petroleum Cores In geology, permeability is a measure of the ability of a material (typically, a rock or unconsolidated alluvial material) to transmit fluids through it. It is of great importance in determining the flow characteristics of hydrocarbons in oil and gas reservoirs, and of groundwater in aquifers.
In this work, we present three-phase oil relative permeability data measured along 11 saturation paths, in a water-wet consolidated (Berea sandstone) and unconsolidated (sandpack) porous media.
2003-9-1 · We present an integrated procedure for estimating permeability, conductivity, capillary pressure, and relative permeability of porous media. Although the method is general, we demonstrate its power and versatility on samples of Berea sandstone.
2003-10-18 · [8] Many experimental studies have considered the response of Berea sandstone to hydrostatic and nonhydrostatic loadings. Zhu and Wong performed simultaneous measurements of porosity and permeability of Berea sandstone during quasi-static triaxial compression tests. This data set has been used as a basis for our model development.
2015-10-1 · The pore sizes distribution graphics (Fig. 5, Fig. 6c) show that the Botucatu sandstone has pores in the order of 40–100 μm, i.e.,4 times larger than the Berea sandstone, however, the permeability values (approximately four times smaller than the Berea) indicate that the Botucatu sandstone, under the test conditions, may have less ...
2021-3-15 · Permeability and porosity vary within individual types of bedding, although hummocky and swaley bedding generally have higher permeability than that of deformed bedding. For permeability >0.1 md, porosity is generally >10%. Cement in Berea samples includes quartz overgrowths, ferroan dolomite, siderite, pyrite, and kaolinite.

Berea sandstones generally do not suffer from permeability reduction during a brine flood. Neglecting the effects of capillary pressure, the model was used to simulate the two-phase flow test. Relative permeability data were obtained by matching the simulated results with the measured pressure drop across the core as shown in Figure 11-3.
We develop a model for predicting porosity and permeability changes in Berea sandstone. The model has been kept as simple as possible in order to facilitate incorporation of the model into existing mechanics codes. For this reason we assume the existence of a separate material model capable of predicting the stress-strain response of the rock.
